Fragrance Magic

Transforming a Global Display Concept into a Flexible Retail Experience Platform

01

Context

A Global Initiative with Local Challenges

L'Oréal Luxe Global developed "Magic Niche," a modular display platform intended to support fragrance storytelling across multiple retail environments.

The objective was to create:

  • One global solution

  • Low production cost

  • Easy rollout

  • Adaptable branding

Key Observation

Although the global concept aimed to standardize fragrance merchandising, each retailer operated under unique visual merchandising systems, space constraints, and operational requirements.

Customer-facing design vs Operational design conflict

Problems

1. Weak Brand Recognition

The display prioritized modularity over brand expression.

Retailers felt the system lacked sufficient visual impact to clearly differentiate luxury brands within crowded fragrance environments.

2. Difficult Store-Level Assembly

The original unit required multiple assembly steps.

Retail partners expressed concerns that store associates would struggle to assemble the fixture correctly.

This created risks for:

  • rollout consistency

  • labor costs

  • visual quality

3. Inefficient Use of Shelf Depth

The unit occupied excessive depth inside fragrance caselines.

This reduced the stock storage area behind the display.

For retailers where inventory replenishment is critical, the loss of stock capacity became a major concern.

Stakeholder Alignment Process

Navigating Global Standards and Local Retail Realities

Before proposing a design solution, I built consensus across retailers, operations teams, local partners, and global stakeholders to ensure the new system addressed both business and operational realities.
